AI for Social Good panel discussion held at Sberbank’s AI Journey conference
Speakers discuss main challenges and opportunities related to AI introduction in Russia. The AI for Social Good panel discussion has opened the second day of the Artificial Intelligence Journey conference. Alexander Vedyakhin, First Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Sberbank, moderated the discussion. The largest Eastern European AI forum, supported by Sberbank and other leading companies, is being held at Moscow’s Expocentre.
Maxim Oreshkin, Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation; Dmitry Peskov, Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation on Digital and Technological Development; Olga Uskova, founder and CEO of Cognitive Technologies, Russia’s developer of software and IT solutions; Danila Medvedev, Chairman of the Board of Directors of KrioRus; and Alexey Natekin, Founder of Open Data Science Community, delivered their speeches during the discussion.
The participants addressed the main concerns regarding AI use, such as potential job cuts and critical errors and bugs first of all. According to the speakers, massive unemployment should not be expected in the country in the next few years amid AI introduction, but people of all professions should take a serious care about their self-education to maintain their competiveness in medium- and long-term.
At the moment, the most efficient job organization is a joint work of people and AI; fully autonomous systems cannot replace people in the majority of industries and can solve a limited number of industry specific tasks so far. At the same time, it is too early to talk about the AI introduction across all industry and service processes in Russia.
Today, the main task is to increase workforce productivity and distribute the positive effects from introducing IA technology among the country’s population. Higher quality health care and education, lower number of road accidents, production optimization and more efficient management of difficult systems were noted as AI opportunities.
